Modrotisk/blueprint is a traditionnal technic to block print fabric in Central Europe. A reserve mass with arbitrary motifs is printed on the white canvas using wooden forms.

The fabric is then dyed in an indigo bath which gives the blueprint a characteristic blue color.

UNESCO added blueprint dyeing to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2018 following a joint bid by the Czech Republic and Austria, Germany, Hungary and Slovakia — where the technology has also survived.

Because blueprint fabric contains lots of color surplus after making process, it's needed to wash the purchased product separately at least twice. After that the color surplus is removed, the blueprint product behaves as any fabric from natural materials and there is no need to pay special attention to it. We recommend to wash it in 40° C, rinse it in tepid water and iron it while it's slightly wet. The pattern might look light blue colored on wet fabric immediately after washing. It's because blue color shines through back side but this phenomenon disappears after the fabric is dried.
